Posters

Delegates to APAC'05 are invited to display a poster at the conference. It should follow the theme of the main program, however they will not be refereed. This is an opportunity for you to discuss formative ideas with colleagues or cover subjects which don't yet justify a full paper.

Guidelines for Poster Presentations at APAC'05

If you are considering displaying a poster a short abstract should be sent to the conference organisers apac05@mlaa.com.au. This will allow us to plan the display space required. You should include a poster title, and the names of any collaborators. Please include all contact details including name(s), organisation name, job title and email address(es).

The intent is for all posters to be on display throughout the conference but authors need only be present to explain their paper during one of the four morning and afternoon teas. We will nominate separately which is your time slot.

If you are unfamiliar with poster sessions, the following may be useful:

  • We suggest that you be prepared to stand at or close to your poster for at least 30 minutes.
  • There is no need to have a presentation but be prepared to answer questions and discuss your material with interested delegates.
  • You may use a computer if you wish as part of your poster. Please bring your own laptop with well-charged batteries, as power supply is not likely to be available.
  • No internet connections will be available.
  • An adjacent table can be provided if required.

General guidelines:

  • Posters must be no greater than 75cm wide and 120cm high (30 inches by 48 inches). If this is a problem, please let us know.
  • The panels provided as back drops will be velcro compatible. The organisers can provide the necessary velcro fixers.
  • You will be sharing the poster panel with two other papers but they will not be assigned the same time slot as yourself.

Suggestions for effective poster presentations:

  • An overall left to right presentation (rows), rather than a top-to-bottom (columns), facilitates smooth traffic flow past your poster.
  • All printing should be presented in at least 16 point font, preferably in bold and not all capitals.
  • The poster should be self-explanatory, so that you are free to answer questions and discuss the research with interested persons.
  • You should be prepared to take names and addresses for a subsequent mailing of information. Perhaps a sheet of paper on which people can provide their name, email address and work address would be useful, or you should be prepared to collect business cards.

Do put your contact information at the bottom, to allow others who are interested to contact you afterwards. Especially as your poster will be on display for the whole conference.
